Nampally gutta laxmi narasimha swami temple

The Nampally Gutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Temple is a distinctive hilltop Hindu shrine located near Vemulawada town in Rajanna Sircilla district, Telangana, India. Dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narasimha—an incarnation of Lord Vishnu—the temple is celebrated for its remarkable serpent-shaped design symbolizing Naga devotion and divine protection. Its scenic elevation and unique architecture make it both a sacred pilgrimage site and a regional tourist attraction.

Architecture and Layout

Built atop a small hill along the Vemulawada–Karimnagar highway, the complex features a serpent-shaped tunnel that devotees traverse, representing the body of the mythic snake. Inside, vivid sculptures narrate the story of Prahlada and Hiranyakashipu, culminating in a rock-carved image of Lord Narasimha slaying the demon. The main idol is carved directly from the hillside rock, and smaller shrines within the complex honor Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Hanuman, and Naga Devathas.

Spiritual Significance

The temple holds major religious importance within Vaishnavism and is believed to grant protection and fulfillment of wishes. Narasimha Jayanti and Swathi Nakshatram festivals attract large gatherings, featuring rituals such as aarti, bhog offerings, and the sandalwood-adornment ceremony (Chandanotsavam). Daily poojas foster a peaceful, devotional atmosphere amid panoramic views of the Telangana countryside.

Visiting Information

The temple lies about 4.5 km from Vemulawada Bus Stand, 2 km from Nampally Bus Stop, and 32 km from Karimnagar, making it accessible by road from major Telangana cities. Visitors ascend several hundred steps from the parking area to reach the shrine. Operating hours are generally 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM daily.
