Andhra Bank

Andhra Bank

Andhra Bank was one of India’s leading public sector banks, founded by Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya on 28 November 1923 in Machilipatnam. The bank was established to promote banking services and economic development, particularly in the Andhra region. Over the years, it expanded its presence across India, offering a wide range of retail, corporate, agricultural, and digital banking services.

The bank’s headquarters was later shifted to Hyderabad. Andhra Bank became a government-owned bank during the nationalization of banks in 1980 and developed an extensive network of branches and ATMs throughout the country.

On 1 April 2020, Andhra Bank was merged with Union Bank of India as part of the Government of India’s banking sector consolidation program. Following the merger, all Andhra Bank branches began operating under Union Bank of India.
